Summer 2016
11.6.–28.8.2016

In the summer we can all hug when we meet and have fun together. Come and see the new plays, attend the Witch's exciting flying school, or peek at the new decorations inside Moominhouse. I wish the summer was here already!

Moomintroll

Moomintroll

Moomintroll is the son of Moominmamma and Moominpappa. He lives on the top floor of the Moominhouse, which has a rope ladder going from the window to the yard. Moomintroll greatly admires Snufkin and enjoys fishing with him. Sometimes it seems like Moomintroll has a crush on Snorkmaiden – although he would probably never admit it.

Little My

Little My

Little My is small enough to fit in a milk jug! Nothing scares this tiny but temperamental girl; in fact, the crazier the adventure the more she likes it. Little My lives with the Moomin family and always has something to say if she thinks that someone has a bad attitude. Although she can be difficult and has a big mouth, Little My has a special place in the heart of everyone who lives in Moomin Valley.

Moominmamma

Moominmamma

Moominmamma is Moomintroll’s mother and Moominpappa’s wife, but many other creatures also live in her blue house. Perhaps this extended family is the reason why Moominmamma has become so good at solving problems. A hug from Moominmamma is one of the best in the world and everybody loves her jam. Fortunately there’s always enough of it stored in the cellar of Moominhouse to last until the next summer.

Moominpappa

Moominpappa

Moominpappa loves the sea, storms and a good adventure. He’s a dedicated storyteller, who enthrals listeners with tales about the children's home that he grew up in or the practical jokes he pulled in school. It’s no wonder that Moominpappa is working on his memoirs – We can hardly wait until the book is ready...

Sniff

Sniff

To be perfectly honest, Sniff is a bit of a scaredy-cat, and he’s even afraid of water. So, it’s no use asking him to come along to the Moomins’ bathing hut. When he goes on adventures, Sniff get tired, startled and he complains a lot – but what does he get really excited about? Well, for instance, the thought of a mountain made of jewels and unbelievable wealth...

Hemulen

Hemulen

Hemulen is a real scientist and, as such, a bit unfamiliar with social etiquette. He’s also very happy to be alone, working on his steadily growing butterfly, stamp and plant collections. Only three more are missing... the water dock, heath spotted orchid and an as-yet unknown species, the discovery of which would allow Hemulen to go down in history as one of the great names of botany.

Snufkin

Snufkin

Snufkin is not only a wanderer and a great adventurer, but a bit of a philosopher. This friendly hermit spends his summers in Moominvalley fishing, playing the harp, telling stories and frying his fish over an open fire. When the Moomins hibernate during the winter, Snufkin hikes in the south.

Snorkmaiden

Snorkmaiden

Snorkmaiden is a real young lady, who is interested in everything beautiful and whose fringe is always perfect. When she’s not looking in the mirror and dreaming of a prince, Snorkmaiden still has time for crazy adventures. She’s a good friend of Moomintroll and Little My.

Stinky

Stinky

Stinky is Moominworld’s very own outlaw, and nobody ever invites him to parties or to play. Why not, you ask? Well, because he put glue in Moominmamma’s pancake batter, stole Snork’s flying contraption, set Moominpappa’s manuscript on fire with a burning lens, dropped Hemulen’s butterfly collection in a spring, and put a salted herring in Snorkmaiden’s perfume. Do you need any more explanations?

The Witch

The Witch

The Witch has an ugly face and wild stories, but she’s really just a rather harmless old woman. The Witch is suspicious of the gentle Moomins and prefers to stay in her cottage surrounded by spider webs and snakes. The Witch lives with her good granddaughter Alice, who is in training to continue her work in the future.

Alice

Alice

The Witch’s granddaughter Alice is good, fun and cute. She likes the Moomins a lot and always plays with them whenever the Witch is not watching – the Witch thinks that the kind and gentle Moomins are a 'bad influence' on Alice. In spite of her goodness, Alice wants to be a real witch, and she’s studying towards this goal under the Witch’s guidance.

Mrs Fillyjonk

Mrs Fillyjonk

Mrs Fillyjonk doesn’t believe in the Moomins’ relaxed style of upbringing, and observes a policy of strict discipline with her three children. Play is frivolous but reading is always worthwhile. Mrs Fillyjonk dresses in red and can’t tolerate dirt, which means that she’s always cleaning. It’s a nerve-wracking life because some people are just so untidy by nature!

Too-Ticky

Too-Ticky

Too-Ticky is a friend of the Moomin family who always spends the winter in their bathing hut living with eight invisible shrews. Too-Ticky is very calm and enjoys the winter and fishing.

The Groke

The Groke

The Groke is a lonely wanderer, who freezes the ground wherever he goes. But the Groke isn’t mean – just lonely. Isn’t that a bit sad?

The Hattifatteners

The Hattifatteners

You can always tell when the Hattifatteners are close by because of the electricity in the air. Those tiny, energised creatures always travel in packs, but no one actually knows what they want or why and where they are on the move. The Hattifatteners glow with an unusual light in stormy weather.

Edvard the Booble

Edvard the Booble

Edvard the Booble is huge; in fact, he’s the second biggest animal in the world –right after his brother. Edvard mostly lives in the sea but he does move on land as well – and he only steps on smaller creatures by accident. (If that happens, he always pays for the funeral.)

Muddler and Fizzy

Muddler and Fizzy

Muddler and Fizzy are Moomimpappa's old friends. They live in a coffee jar and love collecting all kinds of things, especially buttons.

Theatre rat Emma

Theatre rat Emma

You might run into Emma at the theatre, where she works as a cleaner. Theatre rat Emma might seem a bit sour, but don't let that fool you. Deep down she is very warm and friendly. Just don't whistle in the theatre, that will make Emma very angry.

Thingumy and Bob

Thingumy and Bob

Thingumy and Bob are timid and small creatures who speak in a very strange way. If you are having trouble telling them apart, remember that Thingumy always wears a red hat.
